Those who were able to make it to the valley reunion were not disappointed. It was a flashback to the past as classmates met together in the gymnasium of Valley Elementary School. Nikki Wilson Wolthuis, event coordinator, had the gym decorated with old uniforms from Snowcrest Junior High School, and was even able to borrow scrapbooks that displayed valley students from the 50’s through the 1980’s.
The place was bouncing with tunes from the 80’s— now what could be better!
Those in attendance were: Elizabeth Froerer Babcock, David Bailey, Kallee Hawks Carrigan, Krista Johansen Curran, Sharon Brown Dove, Kera Fuller Erickson, Emily Froerer, Christine Vigil Garcia, Jonette Nipko Garcia, Lindsay Lund Garr, Jenny Songer Harris, Tiffany Tams Howe, Mary Robins Longhurst, Amanda Shaw Olsen, Kate Bushell Olsen, Star Georgi Primm, Jocelynn Quist Tippets, Tyler Toone, Sherri Pugmire Michelson, Nikki Wilson Wolthius.
Classmates visited while enjoying a catered dinner.
Nikki Wilson Wolthuis, with her lovely assistant Emily Froerer, began the raffle. Remember those Bulldog Badges from Elementary School? If we were good kids we could earn a Bulldog Badge and then trade them in for prizes. Thanks to Jenny Songer Harris, who saved one of her coveted Bulldog Badges, we were able to make copies of Bulldog Badges to use as raffle tickets for the reunion.
Many local valley businesses donated prizes for the raffle. There was a gift certificate to use at Wolf Creek Resort, a gondola ride from Snowbasin Resort, and donations from Carver’s Petting Farm, Valley Hair, and The Ogden Valley News, and Great Harvest Bread.
In addition, 80’s memorabilia was raffled off. There was the Care Bear won by David Bailey, and eighties mix of music that went to Krista Johanson Curran. Other memorabilia included a playground ball signed by Mr. Toyn himself, Garbage Pail Kids, a Chinese jump rope, and Sweet Valley Twins chapter books.
Everyone who came to the reunion had a great time. Those who could not make it were greatly missed.
Check back on the Blog periodically for future events. We would like to stay in touch with classmates and perhaps do something similar every couple years, and for sure in ten years.
If you have current pictures of you or your family, or fun pictures from back in the day, send them in to share on the Blog site. Also, tell all your valley friends that were not able to make it to the reunion to check out the Blog, and send in their pictures too.
Just a little note: Did you know that next summer part of Valley Elementary will be torn down? They are leaving the newer part of the school that includes the library and the east wing of the building. The west wing that was dedicated in 1958 will be torn down to make room for a new section. The gymnasium at Valley Elementary has been in use since the 1930’s.
